Mysore method of Ashtanga Yoga
begins Thursday, June 20
Amberlie Johnson will offer this time and space to practice. You may come and go at your convenience within the time frame of this class or stay for the entire 1 hour and 45 minutes.
In a Mysore style class each individual will be taught one posture at a time from a set series of postures and develop a practice at their own pace as they memorize, feel ready, and excited to proceed. The classes will be intimate and will provide space and time for each individual to experience self healing, create a deeper and more intelligent relationship with their bodies, and will challenge you to start cultivating strength and vitality in your mind and body. There will be ample one on one connecting with your teacher to guide you through any questions you have during practice. You will learn yogic breathing techniques to calm the central nervous system and if appropriate for you restorative postures may be advised.
The Ashtanga Yoga system is centralized around harnessing the power of the breath, bandhas (energetic/internal locks), creating a meditative state, and asanas. It is a progressive sequence of postures that build on each other in order to create a complete opening and merging of the physical, mental, emotional, and energetic body. The goal is to memorize the practice and create the ability to practice on your own at any time whether you are in class with your teacher or in your own home practicing in your own time just as you would a meditation practice. You will learn new postures as you get stronger, more in tune, and are ready to move forward with your practice.
